How to Tell Them Apart
Gambel's Quail
Male has black face and throat, white facial borders, rufous crown, blue-grey breast, chestnut flanks, and black patch on lower belly; forward-curving black plume. Female dull grey-brown, streaked.

About These Birds
Gambel's Quail
미국 남서부와 멕시코 북서부 소노라 사막과 건조한 관목지대 고유종인 중형 메추라기. 수컷은 끝이 앞으로 휘어진 검은 깃털 장식을 가지며, 회색과 황갈색 몸통에 비늘무늬 배가 특징이다. 씨앗, 어린 새싹, 곤충을 먹으며, 물을 얻기 위해 선인장 열매에 의존하기도 한다.

A medium-sized New World quail (~295 g) of family Odontophoridae, with contrasting black breast and white facial markings. Inhabits humid lowland and foothill forests in Costa Rica and Panama. Forages secretively on the forest floor in pairs or small groups for seeds and invertebrates. Least Concern; found in intact forest of Central America's Pacific and Caribbean slopes.
