Loud, resonant 'chuck-chuck-CHURR' calls from Chinese loess plateau and Qinghai rocky terrain; lower and slightly fuller than Chukar. Alarm is rapid harsh cackle. Pairs call in duet at dawn.

간쑤성 복도에서 칭하이성과 티베트 고원 동부까지의 바위 반건조 지형 및 황토 골짜기에 서식하는 대형 꿩과(Phasianidae) 자고새(약 553g). 굵은 검은 목 무늬와 줄무늬 측면이 특징이다. 씨앗과 식물 재료를 먹는다.
Sage Grouse
북미 최대 뇌조(약 2.1 kg)로 수컷은 구애 과시 중 노란 공기주머니를 부풀리는 뾰족한 꼬리를 가진다. 미국 서부와 캐나다의 쑥(Artemisia) 생태계에 먹이와 번식 모두 전적으로 의존한다. 주로 쑥 잎을 먹는다. 준위협종으로 쑥 서식지 광범위한 전환으로 개체수가 크게 감소했다.
