간쑤성 복도에서 칭하이성과 티베트 고원 동부까지의 바위 반건조 지형 및 황토 골짜기에 서식하는 대형 꿩과(Phasianidae) 자고새(약 553g). 굵은 검은 목 무늬와 줄무늬 측면이 특징이다. 씨앗과 식물 재료를 먹는다.
