중형 물오리로 체장 약 55cm이며, 수컷은 광택 있는 녹색 머리, 흰 몸통, 빨간 부리를 갖는다. 남아메리카 내륙 강과 청정 하천에 서식한다. 잠수하여 어류를 먹는다. 위기 상태이다.
