世界の温帯・熱帯の湿地に広く分布するセイタカシギ（体長33〜40cm）。黒・白の羽毛と極めて長い赤いピンク色の脚が特徴的。Himantopus himantopus（セイタカシギ）は体に対して最も長い脚を持つ鳥の一つで、浅い水中を歩いて小型無脊椎動物を食べる。日本では迷鳥として観察されることがある。Recurvirostridae科。
