ムラサキアカシギはボルネオ（特にキナバル山・クロッカー山脈）の山地林固有の特徴的なキジ科のヤマウズラ（体重約315 g）。雄は鮮やかな深紅色の頭部と暗褐色の体が対照的。地面を歩いて種子・小型無脊椎動物を採食。主に標高900 m以上の森林に限定。軽度懸念。

Habitat & Range

Endemic to Borneo; resident of hill and lower montane forest in Sabah, Sarawak, and Kalimantan, mainly at 300–1,500 m.
Diet & Feeding
Forages in Bornean hill forest for seeds, fruits, and invertebrates; scratches leaf litter on steep slopes.
