レッサースカップは北米に分布する潜水性カモで、スズガモに近縁ですが若干小型です。雄は紫色の光沢がある黒い頭部を持ちます。淡水の湖や河川、沿岸の湾に生息し、貝類、甲殻類、水草などを潜って採食します。
