Dry chaco and quebracho woodland in Paraguay, southern Bolivia, and northern Argentina. Associated with sandy soils and scrubby dry forest. Avoids dense forest and humid habitats.

A small brown tinamou with obscure barring and a grey throat, named after naturalist Edward Bartlett. Found in the western Amazon basin in Peru, Ecuador, and adjacent Brazil. Terrestrial and cryptic; detected mainly by its soft clear whistle in humid forest.

Quebracho Crested Tinamou

A small crested tinamou closely related to the Elegant Crested Tinamou, with a shorter crest and finer streaking. Found in dry chaco woodland of Paraguay, Bolivia, and Argentina. Terrestrial and gregarious. Poorly studied compared to its close relative.
