About These Birds

Atlantic Petrel

43 cm, wingspan 104 cm. Large; dark brown above with pale belly and dusky breast-band creating hooded appearance. Breeds Tristan da Cunha and Gough Island; ranges into south Atlantic and Indian Ocean. Endangered; threatened by introduced predators and longline fisheries.

Little Shearwater

25–30 cm. Small shearwater; dark above with white underparts and extensive white on face and sides of neck. Breeds Canary Islands, Madeira, and southern hemisphere islands; ranges in adjacent oceans. Feeds on small fish and squid; fast fluttering flight close to water.
