El tucusito copete es un pequeño colibrí de América del Sur con una cresta de dos partes roja y azul brillante, única entre los colibríes. El macho tiene la corona roja y azul con partes inferiores blancas. La hembra carece de la cresta llamativa. Habita en cerrado, sabanas y bordes de bosque de Brasil, Bolivia y Paraguay. A small hummingbird (8-9 cm) breeding along the Pacific coast from Oregon to southern California. Males have an orange-red throat and rufous flanks. Closely related to Rufous Hummingbird. Partial migrant; some populations resident on Channel Islands. Named after Thomas Allen.
