La paloma-halcón de las Sangihe es una paloma endémica de las Islas Sangihe en Indonesia. Es la menos conocida de las palomas-halcón del género Gymnophaps. Tiene plumaje oscuro similar al de otras especies del grupo. Habita en los bosques remanentes de las islas volcánicas de Sangihe. Está amenazada por la severa deforestación y la fragmentación del hábitat en estas pequeñas islas.

Inhabits open and semi-open habitats, woodland edges, and farmland from Bolivia and central Brazil to Uruguay and Argentina. Granivore of seeds and agricultural grains. Common and adaptable.
