El pato barcino es una cerceta pequeña y común ampliamente distribuida por América del Sur, desde Colombia y Venezuela hasta Tierra del Fuego. Tiene plumaje marrón moteado con un espéculo alar verde brillante y el pico de color amarillo-anaranjado. Es un habitante ubicuo de los humedales sudamericanos, encontrándose en lagunas, ríos, arroyos y pantanos.

El barnacla brenta o barnacla negruzca es un pequeño ganso marino de color negro y gris oscuro con un pequeño parche blanco a los lados del cuello. Cría en la tundra ártica y migra a zonas costeras templadas del hemisferio norte en invierno, donde se alimenta principalmente de zostera, un tipo de hierba marina. Es el único ganso que pasa el invierno en ambientes exclusivamente marinos.
