El hormiguerito de cabeza negra es un pequeño insectívoro activo del cerrado y bosques secos del centro de Brasil. Tiene una corona negra prominente y partes inferiores blancas con rayas. Mide unos 11 cm. Busca insectos en las ramas y el follaje del interior de los bosques. Se une frecuentemente a bandadas mixtas de insectívoros. Especie del género Herpsilochmus de distribución restringida en el interior de Brasil.
