El mérgulo copetudo es un álcido compacto con una espectacular cresta curva hacia adelante. Nidifica en colonias sobre afloramientos rocosos en las Islas Aleutianas y el norte del Pacífico. Emite notas graznantes y tiene un pronunciado olor cítrico durante la cría. Familia Alcidae.
