How to Tell Them Apart

Metallic green upperparts and greyish-white underparts. Males have a brilliant iridescent ruby-red gorget that appears black in poor light. Females lack the gorget.

Der Rubinkehlkolibri ist der einzige im Osten Nordamerikas brütende Kolibri. Der Prachtstaffelschwanz ist einer der beliebtesten und bekanntesten Vögel Australiens; brütende Männchen tragen ein spektakuläres violett-blaues Gefieder. Diese winzigen Vögel leben in kooperativen Familiengruppen, in denen Helfer dem Brutpaar bei der Aufzucht der Jungen zur Seite stehen. Männchen pflücken gelbe Blütenblätter und überreichen sie den Weibchen im Rahmen der Balz.
