Virginia-Uhu

Der Virginia-Uhu ist die kraftvollste und am weitesten verbreitete Eule Amerikas und trägt daher den Beinamen Tiger des Himmels. Er zählt zu den frühesten Brutvögeln und legt seine Eier oft schon im Januar, wenn noch Schnee liegt. Der Virginia-Uhu ist ein gefürchteter Jäger, der regelmäßig Beute erlegt, die bis zu dreimal so schwer ist wie er selbst.

Wilson-Paradiesvogel

Der Wilson-Paradiesvogel gehört zu den außergewöhnlichsten gefärbten Vögeln der Erde. Männchen räumen sorgfältig eine Fläche des Waldbodens als Balzplatz frei und entfernen dabei jedes Blatt und jeden Zweig. Aufgrund seines eng begrenzten Vorkommens auf wenigen Inseln war die Art der Wissenschaft bis ins späte 20. Jahrhundert kaum bekannt.
