Virginia-Uhu

Der Virginia-Uhu ist die kraftvollste und am weitesten verbreitete Eule Amerikas und trägt daher den Beinamen Tiger des Himmels. Er zählt zu den frühesten Brutvögeln und legt seine Eier oft schon im Januar, wenn noch Schnee liegt. Der Virginia-Uhu ist ein gefürchteter Jäger, der regelmäßig Beute erlegt, die bis zu dreimal so schwer ist wie er selbst.

Wanderfalke

Der Wanderfalke ist das schnellste Tier der Erde und erreicht bei seinem charakteristischen Sturzflug auf Beute Geschwindigkeiten von über 389 km/h. Wie der Weißkopfseeadler erlitt auch der Wanderfalke durch DDT dramatische Bestandseinbrüche, konnte sich jedoch dank intensiver Schutzprogramme erholen. Die Art hat sich bemerkenswert gut an städtische Lebensräume angepasst.
