Der Steinadler zählt zu den kraftvollsten und wendigsten Greifvögeln der nördlichen Hemisphäre. Von zahlreichen Kulturen verehrt, wird er seit Jahrhunderten in der Falknerei eingesetzt, insbesondere von kasachischen Adlerjägern Zentralasiens. Bei der Jagd können Steinadler im Sturzflug Geschwindigkeiten von über 240 km/h erreichen.

Schuhschnabel

Der Schuhschnabel ist wegen seines urzeitlichen Erscheinungsbilds und seines gewaltigen Schnabels einer der begehrtesten Vögel für Vogelbeobachter in Afrika. Er kann stundenlang reglos verharren, bevor er nach vorne stößt, um Beute mit seinem riesigen Schnabel zu ergreifen. Trotz einer Körpergröße von über einem Meter wiegt der Schuhschnabel dank seiner hohlen Knochen vergleichsweise wenig.
