Die Amsel ist einer der bekanntesten und beliebtesten Singvögel Europas, geschätzt für ihren volltönenden, flötenden Gesang, den sie in der Morgen- und Abenddämmerung von Dächern und Baumwipfeln vorträgt. Ursprünglich ein scheuer Waldvogel, hat sie im Laufe der letzten zwei Jahrhunderte städtische Lebensräume besiedelt und sich zu einem der erfolgreichsten Stadtvögel entwickelt.

Der Bienenfresser gehört zu den farbenprächtigsten Vögeln Europas und zeigt ein Farbspiel aus Kastanienbraun, Gold und Türkis. Seinem Namen gerecht werdend, hat sich der Bienenfresser auf den Fang giftiger Insekten spezialisiert und entfernt geschickt den Stachel vor dem Verzehr. Er brütet in Kolonien und gräbt bis zu zwei Meter lange Bruthöhlen in sandige Steilufer.
