Der Weißkopfseeadler ist der Nationalvogel und das Symbol der Vereinigten Staaten. Der Mandschurenstorch ist eine der am stärksten gefährdeten Storchenarten; in freier Wildbahn leben noch weniger als 3.000 Individuen. Einst war er in ganz Ostasien weit verbreitet, ging jedoch durch die Trockenlegung von Feuchtgebieten und den Einsatz von Pestiziden dramatisch zurück. Wiederansiedlungsprogramme in Japan und Korea konnten bemerkenswerte Erfolge erzielen.
