Der Weißkopfseeadler ist der Nationalvogel und das Symbol der Vereinigten Staaten. Der Basstölpel ist ein spektakulärer Sturzflugtaucher, der seine zwei Meter breiten Flügel pfeilförmig anlegt und mit bis zu 100 km/h auf das Wasser trifft. Luftsäcke unter der Haut und ein verstärkter Schädel schützen ihn vor dem Aufprall. Der Bass Rock in Schottland beherbergt über 150.000 Basstölpel – die größte einzelne Kolonie eines Seevogels weltweit.
