Der Papageitaucher, oft als Clown der Meere bezeichnet, ist ein charismatischer Seevogel, der in Höhlen an nördlichen Meeresklippen brütet. Dank rückwärts gerichteter Dornen am Gaumen kann er bis zu einem Dutzend Fische quer im Schnabel tragen. Klimawandel und Überfischung bedrohen sein Nahrungsangebot und führen zu Bestandsrückgängen.

Der Kanadareiher ist mit einer Höhe von bis zu 1,4 Metern der größte Reiher Nordamerikas. Diese geduldigen Jäger können lange Zeit reglos verharren, bevor sie mit bemerkenswerter Geschwindigkeit nach Beute stoßen.
