Metallic bronze-green upperparts. Males have an iridescent rose-red crown and gorget. Females have green upperparts with grey underparts and a small red gorget patch.

Der Annakolibri ist der häufigste Kolibri entlang der Pazifikküste und eine von nur drei Kolibriarten, die ganzjährig in den USA verweilen. Die riesige, über zwei Meter lange Schleppe des Pfaus wird bei aufwendigen Balzritualen gefächert und in Vibration versetzt. Trotz ihrer Größe können Pfauen kurze Strecken fliegen und übernachten in hohen Bäumen.
