Die Wanderdrossel gilt in weiten Teilen Nordamerikas als Vorbote des Frühlings. Trotz ihres englischen Namens ist sie eine echte Drossel und mit dem europäischen Rotkehlchen nicht verwandt. Wanderdrosseln ziehen zwei bis drei Bruten pro Jahr auf und gehören zu den ersten Vögeln, die im morgendlichen Vogelchor singen.

Der Star ist berühmt für seine Schwarmflüge – riesige, wirbelnde Verbände aus Tausenden Vögeln, die am winterlichen Himmel faszinierende Muster bilden. Als geschickter Imitator kann er andere Vogelrufe, Autoalarmanlagen und Handy-Klingeltöne nachahmen. In Nordamerika wurde er von einer Gruppe eingeführt, die jeden von Shakespeare erwähnten Vogel dort ansiedeln wollte.
