Remiges

定义

The primary and secondary flight feathers of the wing, essential for powered flight.

详细说明

Remiges are divided into primaries (attached to the manus) and secondaries (attached to the ulna). Primaries generate thrust; secondaries generate lift. The number of each varies by family — most passerines have 9-10 primaries and 6-9 secondaries. Asymmetric feather shafts provide the aerodynamic stiffness needed to resist air pressure during the downstroke.
