Định Nghĩa
A geographically distinct population within a species that differs in appearance but can still interbreed.
Giải Thích Chi Tiết
Subspecies recognition requires that a population be distinguishable (typically >75% of individuals correctly classifiable by external characters) and geographically cohesive. The 'subspecies problem' is acute in ornithology because decades of geographic variation studies named thousands of subspecies that modern genetics fails to support as distinct evolutionary units. Subspecies that have diverged substantially in genetics or ecology may be elevated to full species under the Biological Species Concept or the Phylogenetic Species Concept.
