The Black-winged Lovebird, Agapornis taranta, is a member of the family Psittaculidae and inhabits forest environments in the highlands of Ethiopia and Eritrea. It is the largest species in the genus Agapornis. This species nests in tree cavities, with an incubation period of approximately 25 days and a fledging period of around 49 days, both among the longest within the genus. Clutch size is typically 5 eggs. Detailed plumage and behavioral descriptions of this species are limited in the available literature, though males of this sexually dimorphic species are identified by their red forehead and black flight feathers contrasting with otherwise green plumage. Females lack the red forehead coloration. Its conservation status is Least Concern. The Black-winged Lovebird's longer incubation and fledging periods compared to lowland relatives may reflect adaptations to cooler montane conditions. It feeds on seeds, fruits, and plant material. This species is less commonly kept in aviculture than many other lovebirds. Dietary specifics and vocalizations are not described in detail in currently available records.
