A large pheasant (~1.5 kg) of family Phasianidae, males with grey upper body, red-and-white spotted lower parts, and a grey lappet. Inhabits dense temperate and montane forests in northeastern India, Bhutan, northern Myanmar, and southwestern China at 1,800–3,500 m. Feeds on berries and plant material. Vulnerable due to forest loss and hunting across its northeastern Himalayan range.
