A large cracid (~2.4 kg) of family Cracidae, males black with a yellow knob at the bill base and curly crest. Found in tropical dry forests, gallery forests, and forest edges in Venezuela and adjacent Colombia. Forages on the ground and in low vegetation for fruits and seeds. Near Threatened due to habitat loss and hunting in Venezuela's increasingly degraded lowland forests.

Eats large fruits, seeds, and invertebrates on forest floor of Venezuelan and Colombian lowlands. Forages mainly on ground.
