Indian Peafowl

The Indian peafowl is the national bird of India and one of the most spectacular birds in the world. The peacock's enormous train, which can span over two meters, is used in elaborate courtship displays where the feathers are fanned and vibrated. Despite their size, peafowl can fly short distances and roost in tall trees.

A large Phasianidae snowcock (~1.51 kg) of high Tibetan Plateau and adjacent ranges from Afghanistan to western China, typically at 4,000–6,000 m. White underparts with grey streaks; runs fast on rocky terrain. Feeds on grass roots, leaves, and invertebrates. Least Concern; adapted to extreme altitude.
