Common Snipe: 25–27 cm, classic Holarctic snipe with a very long straight bill, bold striped head, and explosive zig-zag flush. Breeds on bogs, moors, and wet meadows across Eurasia and North America; winters south to tropical Africa, Asia, and Central America. Probes for worms. Produces 'drumming' display dive with spread tail feathers.

Resident in swampy grassland and marshy terrain of Venezuela, Trinidad, Colombia, Brazil, and adjacent South America. Feeds on invertebrates by deep probing. Secretive and crepuscular. Poorly known.
