北半球の湿地・湿原で繁殖するシギ(体長23〜28cm)。長い嘴と褐色・黄色の縦縞模様が特徴。Gallinago gallinago(タシギ)は「ドラミング」と呼ばれる、尾羽を広げて急降下する繁殖ディスプレイで独特の羽音を立てる。嘴の先端に高感度の感覚器官があり、泥の中のミミズを感触で見つける。Scolopacidae科。
