Habitat Comparison
Barred Tinamou
Restricted to humid lowland forest along the Casiquiare canal region of southern Venezuela and extreme northwestern Brazil. Associated with river-edge and flooded forest at low elevations. Rarely recorded.
Tawny-breasted Tinamou
Humid montane forest at 1,500–2,600 m in the northern and central Andes of Colombia, Ecuador, and northern Peru. Prefers steep slopes with dense ferns and shrubs beneath closed canopy.

Barred Tinamou
A small tinamou with distinctly barred brown-and-buff plumage. Restricted to the Casiquiare region of Venezuela and adjacent northwestern Brazil—one of the most restricted tinamou ranges. Nearly all data come from specimens. Inhabits humid lowland forest along river systems.
Tawny-breasted Tinamou
A medium-sized tinamou with plain tawny-brown upperparts and warm rufous-orange breast. Found in Andean forests of Ecuador, Colombia, and Peru. Secretive and terrestrial; known primarily from its loud mournful call heard at dawn. Forages in dense undergrowth for seeds and invertebrates.
