Restricted to humid lowland forest along the Casiquiare canal region of southern Venezuela and extreme northwestern Brazil. Associated with river-edge and flooded forest at low elevations. Rarely recorded.

Humid montane forest at 1,500–2,600 m in the northern and central Andes of Colombia, Ecuador, and northern Peru. Prefers steep slopes with dense ferns and shrubs beneath closed canopy.

Habita o sub-bosque de florestas de igapó e terra firme. Praticamente desconhecido em termos de biologia e ecologia. Detectado pelo canto próximo a cursos d'água.
