Similar to Chinese Bamboo-partridge but warmer toned; richer chestnut on flanks and breast; brown upperparts with olive tinge; grey supercilium; rufous tail; white belly. Endemic to Taiwan; sexes similar.

Males (peacocks) have iridescent blue-green plumage and an enormous train of elongated upper tail coverts with eye-spots. Females (peahens) are brown and cryptically patterned.

Very similar to the Chinese Bamboo-partridge but considered a distinct island species based on vocalisations and genetics. Gregarious; feeds on seeds and invertebrates. Locally abundant; Least Concern.
