Tem a coloração castanho-avermelhada típica dos parrecos com flancos largamente barrados de castanho-escuro e branco. Habita zonas húmidas de água doce, incluindo lagos, pântanos e planícies inundadas tropicais. É gregário e frequentemente mistura-se com outras espécies de parrecos. Os bandos podem ser muito numerosos durante as estações não reprodutoras.
Hartlaub's Duck
O pato-de-hartlaub é um pato de tamanho médio da África Central Ocidental, encontrado nas florestas húmidas e zonas húmidas fluviais do Gabão, Camarões, Congo e países adjacentes. Os machos têm cabeça azulada escura com bico azul e corpo castanho-avermelhado escuro. O bico tem um tubérculo menor do que em muitas espécies.
