O ganso-andino é um ganso médio endémico das altas Andes da América do Sul. Tem plumagem principalmente branca com asas pretas marcantes visíveis em voo. O bico e as pernas são de cor rosada característica. Habita prados e lagos de altitude elevada nos Andes, desde o Peru e Bolívia até ao Chile e Argentina. Descende para elevações inferiores durante os meses de inverno. É adaptado à vida em altitudes extremas e raramente é encontrado abaixo de 3.000 metros.
