O ganso-de-testa-branca é um ganso cinzento médio com uma característica faixa branca na frente da cabeça e barras pretas irregulares no ventre. Tem distribuição circumolar na tundra ártica onde cria, hibernando mais ao sul. As duas subespécies principais diferem no tamanho do bico e hibernam em diferentes regiões. O pato-de-hartlaub é um pato de tamanho médio da África Central Ocidental, encontrado nas florestas húmidas e zonas húmidas fluviais do Gabão, Camarões, Congo e países adjacentes. Os machos têm cabeça azulada escura com bico azul e corpo castanho-avermelhado escuro. O bico tem um tubérculo menor do que em muitas espécies.
