O pato amarelo-castanho é um pato dabbling encontrado na América do Sul e nas ilhas da Geórgia do Sul. Apresenta uma plumagem castanha mosqueada com a cabeça estriada e um espelho alar verde-dourado marcante. É amplamente distribuído em zonas húmidas andinas e patagónicas, desde a Colômbia e Venezuela até à Terra do Fogo. As populações das ilhas da Geórgia do Sul são isoladas e foram propostas como subespécie separada.
