Mede aproximadamente 43-46 cm. Caracterizado pela plumagem castanho-avermelhada manchada. É um dos patos mais raros e ameaçados do mundo. Alimenta-se de invertebrados aquáticos e material vegetal. Classificado como Em Perigo pela UICN, com população estimada em menos de 2.500 indivíduos.

O parreco-vagabundo é um pato assobiadeiro encontrado da Indonésia e Filipinas à Austrália. Tem a coloração castanho-avermelhada típica dos parrecos com flancos largamente barrados de castanho-escuro e branco.
