Os machos têm cabeça e partes inferiores vermelhas brilhantes, dorso verde e coberturas da asa verdes. Alimenta-se principalmente de sementes, frutos e flores. É uma ave social geralmente vista em pequenos grupos. Classificado como Pouco Preocupante pela UICN.
