Caracterizado pela fronte vermelha e bochecha preta distinta. É muito social, vivendo em grupos. Alimenta-se de sementes e frutos. Considerado uma das espécies de periquito mais ameaçadas da África. Classificado como Vulnerável pela UICN, com população estimada em menos de 10.000 indivíduos.
