Um gavião de tamanho médio da família Accipitridae que se reproduz na Europa Oriental e migra para a África Oriental. O Gavião-de-asa-curta (Accipiter brevipes) reproduz em florestas caducifólias nos Bálcãs, Turquia e região caspiana, migrando para o sul através do Oriente Médio para invernar na África Oriental. Mede aproximadamente 30-37 cm. Voa em bandos durante a migração, comportamento incomum para gaviões. Alimenta-se principalmente de lagartos, pequenas aves e insetos. The Black Baza is a small, striking raptor of South and Southeast Asia with a bold crest, black upperparts, and white underparts barred with chestnut. It inhabits tropical and subtropical forests, including forest edges and secondary growth, from the foothills of the Himalayas through Myanmar, southern China, and the Malay Peninsula. It feeds primarily on large insects, frogs, and lizards, often hunting in small groups.
