O beija-flor-de-bico-longo-de-garganta-azul habita na Argentina, Brasil, Bolívia e Paraguai. O macho tem partes superiores verdes e uma gorjeira azul-violeta-iridescente. Alimenta-se do néctar de flores de arbustos e árvores em florestas, orlas de floresta e zonas arborizadas. Usa o seu longo bico para aceder ao néctar de flores tubulares. Contribui para a polinização de diversas plantas da América do Sul.
