About These Birds
Little Pratincole
Little Pratincole: 16–19 cm, South Asia's smallest pratincole with pale sandy-grey plumage, black loral stripe, and white rump. Resident along large sandy rivers, reservoir shorelines, and open sandy ground across the Indian subcontinent and parts of Southeast Asia. Hawks insects aerially. Largely sedentary; local nomadism.
Three-banded Courser
Three-banded Courser: 26–29 cm, distinctive courser with three black-and-white breast-bands, pale creamy-brown plumage, and red eye-ring. Nocturnal resident in dry acacia woodland and savanna of eastern Africa from Ethiopia to Tanzania. Insectivorous; roosts motionless on bare ground in daytime. Cryptic plumage provides excellent camouflage.
