중간 크기의 아름다운 오리로 체장 41–49cm이며, 수컷은 오렌지색 볏, 녹색과 보라색 관, 흰색 눈썹, 청동색 옆구리가 화려하게 어우러진 깃털을 갖는다. 동아시아 산지 숲 속 호수와 하천에 서식하며, 유럽과 북아메리카에도 도입되었다. 견과류, 씨앗, 수생식물을 먹는다. 관심 필요 종이다.
