아프리카펭귄은 아프리카 대륙에 고유한 유일한 펭귄 종으로, 당나귀 울음소리 같은 울음 때문에 자카스펭귄이라고도 불린다. 남아프리카와 나미비아의 해안과 섬에 서식한다. 현재 멸종 위기종으로, 어업과 서식지 훼손으로 인해 지난 세기 동안 개체수가 급격히 감소했다.
