검은망토참매는 검은빛 등과 망토, 연한 회색 아랫면에 가는 적갈색 가로줄 무늬, 노란 납막과 발을 가진 중형의 단단한 매이다. 해발 900~2,800m의 뉴기니 산악 삼림에 서식한다. 작은 새와 도마뱀을 먹이로 하며 민첩하고 빠른 비행으로 삼림을 누빈다.

수염독수리

수염독수리(Gypaetus barbatus)는 피레네에서 히말라야까지 고산지에 서식하는 장관스러운 맹금이다. 쐐기형 꼬리와 독특한 검은 '수염'을 지닌다. 주로 뼈를 먹으며 소화시킬 수 없는 뼈는 암반에 떨어뜨려 부순다.
