8–9 cm의 소형 벌새로 멕시코 유카탄 반도·코수멜 섬 고유종. 수컷은 연장된 가늘고 긴 외부 꼬리 깃털을 가진다. 해안 관목지와 정원에서 꿀을 먹는다. 제한된 분포에서의 서식지 파괴로 준위협으로 분류.
