동아프리카와 남아프리카 개활 초지와 삼림 가장자리에 사는 날씬한 쏙독새(24-27 cm, 긴 꼬리 포함). 긴 꼬리를 가진 유사종에 비해 깃털이 밝고 더 섬세한 무늬를 가진다. 야행성 곤충 포식자이며, 거주성 또는 단거리 철새다.

Found from Angola and the DRC south through Zambia and Zimbabwe to South Africa. Resident in woodland and savanna near rocky outcrops.

Nocturnal aerial insectivore specialising in large moths and flying beetles, caught in slow erratic hunting flights.
